Destiny Community School Dress Code

2011-2012

Shirts

·        All students must wear red, white or navy blue polo-style shirts.

·        All shirts must be tucked in so waistline or belt is visible.

·        If a sweatshirt or sweater is worn for warmth, it must be red, white or navy blue.

·        Shirts must be clean and in good repair.

Pants/shorts/skirts/dresses/skorts

·        Pants, shorts, skirts, dresses and skorts must be navy blue or khaki uniform style.

·        Clean and in good repair

·        No denim (jeans), leggings, or sweat pants allowed

·        Shorts, skirts, skorts, and dresses should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. No short-shorts, very short skirts or short skorts are allowed.

·        Navy blue or khaki shorts may be worn under skirts and dresses.

·        Pants and shorts must be hemmed, no fringe. No torn clothing is allowed.

·        Pant length must not go past the heel of the student’s shoes.

·        Pant and short waist must be within one to two inches of the student’s actual waist size.  No "Baggies" allowed.

·        Extra long belts hanging down or wrapped around to the back are not allowed at school.

Shoes/Socks

·        Students need to wear appropriate closed-toed shoes to school.  Gym/athletic shoes are preferred.

·        Students may not wear hard-soled shoes such as cowboy or hiking boots.

·        No slip-on sandals, slip-on shoes, or flip-flops are allowed.  Shoes must be able to be fastened.

·        No high-heel type of shoes including platform heels.

Other Items Relating to Appearance

The following are also prohibited, as they distract from the learning environment:

·        Hair coloring or styles that are distracting

·        Permanent or temporary visible tattoos

·        Unnatural hair colors

·        Excessive or distracting body piercing

·        Extra-long fingernails

·        Extremely large or dangling jewelry.  This also presents an increased risk of injury on the playground and in PE.

Dress-Down Fridays

Students in compliance with the dress code for the entire week may participate in “dress-down” Friday.  Teachers will determine whether or not they can participate.   Dress-Down Friday attire must be in good repair and not have any holes.  Tops must have at least a small capped sleeve.  Spaghetti straps are not permitted.  Tops may display a logo or picture, but no inappropriate pictures, words, or attitudes will be allowed.  Appropriateness will be determined by the teachers and administrators.  Pants/shorts/skirts/dresses/skorts must adhere to the uniform policy requirements of hem and length.  Denim is permitted, and students may wear any color.  Students need to wear appropriate closed-toed shoes on Fridays.

Violation of dress code will result in the Principal requiring a student to change his/her clothes before returning to class. He/she will be assigned a consequence to make up time missed from classes. Parents will be called to bring appropriate clothes to school.
